A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani province on the morning of June 8, 2026. The epicenter was located 32 kilometers offshore from Maasim town. The quake was felt across much of Mindanao. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported at least 37 fatalities as of June 9.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded more than 1,000 aftershocks, more than 20 of which were felt by residents. Towns including Glan and Malapatan sustained the heaviest damage.
Several roads and bridges became impassable, blocking transportation and relief deliveries. Water, electricity, and internet services remained unavailable in affected areas as of June 9.
Multiple organizations have opened verified donation drives to supply food, water, medicine, and shelter materials. Kidlikasan is collecting rice, non-perishable food, drinking water, hygiene items, medicines, shelter materials, and clothing for Barangay Lun Masla in Malapatan.
MindKada Philippines is accepting cash and in-kind donations for food, water, hygiene supplies, and medicines. The group will also send volunteers trained in Psychological First Aid to provide emotional support. The Supreme Student Council of Mindanao State University–General Santos is collecting monetary donations through bank and e-wallet accounts and in-kind items at its campus office under the “Bangon, Mindanao” drive.
The Municipal Junior Officials of Alabel are accepting drinking water, food, blankets, hygiene kits, medicines, clothing, and other essentials. Donors are asked to use only the group’s posted GCash account and to call +63 951 657 3877 or +63 991 697 8550.
The Philippine Red Cross is raising funds for medical care, food, clean water, shelter, and hygiene kits. The Provincial Youth Development Office of Sarangani is coordinating with youth groups to collect drinking water, instant food, tents, tarpaulins, sleeping mats, rice, hygiene kits, and cooking utensils; inquiries can be directed to +63 970 112 3259.
