Maine Senator Faces Re-election Challenge from Democratic Nominee

Sen. Susan Collins said her experience working in potato fields as a child shaped her approach to public service and her record of delivering federal funding to Maine. Collins told Fox News Digital that she secured $1.5 billion over five years for projects including fire stations, rural healthcare facilities, and a fire boat for Portland's waterfront.

The senator faces Democratic nominee Graham Platner in the November election. Collins said she takes the challenge seriously despite allegations against her opponent. Platner has criticized Collins for her vote authorizing the Iraq War and for supporting parts of President Donald Trump's agenda.

" Collins said voters will judge the candidates on results rather than rhetoric. "I think when people look at the accomplishments and results that I've delivered for the people of Maine, that the contrast is enormous," she said.

Collins serves as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. She noted that she has worked with five presidents and evaluates legislation based on its impact on Maine. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told Semafor that Collins is weaker than in 2020.

Collins said Democratic leaders spent over $160 million trying to defeat her in that cycle. Collins said she voted to advance one bill to allow modifications and ultimately voted against the final version while securing a $50 billion rural hospital fund.
