Makhachev Receives Honored Master of Sport of Russia Title

Islam Makhachev received the Honored Master of Sport of Russia title in sambo, according to the International Sambo Federation. The award recognizes his achievements in the sport and his role in promoting it internationally. The decision was first announced during a February 18 meeting at the International Sambo Center.

Officials signed the corresponding order, and the title was formally conferred on July 3. Makhachev won gold medals at the Russian National Sambo Championship in 2014 and 2016. He also claimed gold at the World Combat Sambo Championships in Sofia in 2016.

Makhachev is scheduled to defend his welterweight title against Ian Garry at UFC 330 on August 15 in Philadelphia. A victory would extend his winning streak to 17 consecutive UFC bouts. The same source reported that Alex Pereira will receive the Forrest Griffin Community Award on July 9 at the T-Mobile Arena during the 2026 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for his charitable work through the Poatan Foundation.
