Malaysia Reports Over 1,000 Sexual Harassment Complaints by Male Victims Since 2024
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry recorded more than 1,000 complaints from male victims through its mechanisms since 2024. Police data show total reported sexual harassment cases rose from 477 in 2022 to 1,038 in 2025. Malaysia's Anti-Sexual Harassment Act, enacted in 2022, established a tribunal to handle such cases.
South China Morning PostMore than 1,000 complaints involving male victims have been lodged through the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s complaints mechanisms since 2024. Minister Nancy Shukri said the figure represented a sharp increase in reports. The complaints included unwanted physical contact and inappropriate touching without consent, Nancy added.
The increase comes as overall reported sexual harassment cases rose from 477 in 2022 to 1,038 in 2025, according to police statistics.
Malaysia passed its Anti-Sexual Harassment Act in 2022, creating the Anti-Sexual Harassment Tribunal, or TAGS. The tribunal provides victims a faster and less costly route to seek redress without immediately going through a full court process. Campaigners cautioned that the figures reflect who is coming forward rather than the true scale of abuse.
Sexual harassment remains widely under-reported across gender lines in Malaysia.
