Maldivian Launches Weekly Non-Stop Melbourne to Male Flight
Maldivian airline has started a weekly non-stop service between Melbourne and Male. The 11-hour-35-minute flight replaces previous routes that required a stopover in Singapore.
Maldivian airline began operating a weekly non-stop flight from Melbourne to Male on an Airbus A330-200. The service is chartered by Luxury Escapes for its holiday packages. Passengers receive one checked bag of 23 kilograms and one cabin bag of seven kilograms. Golf clubs, diving equipment without tanks, or a surfboard may be added at no extra charge.
The aircraft uses a 2-4-2 seating layout with 18-inch-wide seats and 31-inch pitch. Armrests between seats can be raised partially but not fully. Passengers can stream limited entertainment content to personal devices. Each seat has one USB-A port limited to one amp output. The flight offers no alcohol service. Every passenger receives a $30 drink voucher for use before boarding.
Dinner options include creamy casarecce pasta and stir-fried rice with chicken in oyster sauce. Breakfast includes toasted banana bread with blueberry compote and vanilla anglaise. Crew members greet passengers during boarding and explain dining options from a menu card.
The route reduces travel distance by about 750 kilometres compared with previous connections through Singapore. Economy seating accounts for 93 percent of capacity on this aircraft.
