Mamdani-Endorsed Candidates Win Three New York Congressional Primaries

Three candidates endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won Democratic primaries for U.S. House seats in New York on June 23, 2026. In the 10th District, former city comptroller Brad Lander defeated incumbent representative Dan Goldman. In the 13th District, former Mamdani campaign staffer Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated a five-term incumbent by a 3.5-point margin.

State Assemblywoman Claire Valdez held a 20-point lead over Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso with 92 percent of ballots counted.

The Associated Press reported that Mamdani allies won at least two of the races. CBS News projected that all three candidates backed by the mayor would win. New York's Democratic Socialists of America branch also advanced seven of its eight endorsed candidates in state legislative primaries, raising its numbers in Albany to 14 from nine.

Mamdani addressed supporters after the races were called. He drew a parallel to his own mayoral victory last year. Valdez also backed seizure of property from landlords, while Chevalier said she does not believe criminal illegal aliens should be deported.
