Man Arrested for Setting Bus Ablaze During Knicks Title Celebrations

Jonathan Strahs, 30, was arrested Monday morning at his Bushwick, Brooklyn, residence on one count of federal arson, New York Post reported. Surveillance footage showed him exiting a charter bus on West 42nd Street in Times Square on June 14, after which flames engulfed the vehicle and spread through its interior into a nearby one during celebrations of the Knicks' first NBA championship in 53 years.

Fire marshals determined the blaze had been intentionally set and collaborated with NYPD Arson and Explosion Detectives and ATF Special Agents to identify the suspect.

The FDNY extinguished the flames once they were reported. Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said in a statement that the fire on a busy street during a night of celebration endangered bystanders and first responders, and that the arrest removed a dangerous individual from city streets.

At least 63 people were arrested during the Knicks championship celebrations, New York Post reported. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the foot and four people were stabbed amid the events.
