Man Charged in Atlanta-Area Attacks That Killed Two

A man has been charged in connection with a series of shootings in the Atlanta suburbs that left two women dead and a man critically injured. The suspect, Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, is accused of carrying out the attacks early on Monday morning, which have drawn significant attention due to the identity of one of the victims.

The first victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds near a restaurant in the Decatur area around 1 a.m. She was transported to a hospital but later died, according to police. Approximately an hour later, a homeless man was shot multiple times while sleeping outside a grocery store in Brookhaven, about 12 miles northwest of the first attack.

He remains hospitalized in critical condition. Another woman was found in Panthersville with gunshot and stab wounds. She died at the scene. Police have stated that the three attacks are connected and that at least one victim was targeted at random.

She served in various roles at the DHS Office of Inspector General, including as an auditor and innovation team leader. Officials have raised concerns about his citizenship status, particularly given his criminal history, which includes a sexual battery conviction.

He has been charged with two counts of malice murder, aggravated assault, and firearms offenses. Adon Abel waived his initial court appearance, and no attorney has been publicly identified to represent him.

The investigation into the attacks is ongoing, with authorities examining whether the other victims were also randomly targeted. The incidents have prompted discussions about the vetting process for citizenship, especially concerning individuals with criminal backgrounds.

U.S. has long barred individuals convicted of most violent crimes from obtaining citizenship, although the specifics of Adon Abel's criminal record prior to his citizenship remain unclear.
