An unidentified man was arrested at Trump Doral National Golf Club for causing a disturbance at a security checkpoint. The incident occurred one week after gunfire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where a suspect attempted to assassinate President Trump. Other gun violence events marked the same weekend across the U.S.
nypost.comA man was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting without violence after he triggered a magnetometer alarm at a Secret Service security checkpoint at Trump Doral National Golf Club in Florida. The arrest occurred on May 2, 2026, one week after a separate shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington.
Video shared on social media by Nick Sortor showed the man shuffling in place as he was placed in handcuffs following the screening-area alarm. The security checkpoint was staffed by federal agents and law enforcement officers. The man has not been publicly identified by name in available court records or agency statements.
He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
President Trump was not present at the golf club at the time of the incident. Michael Townsend, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Secret Service Miami, stated that the situation “did not impact the established security posture for any upcoming visits to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service protectees.”
The Doral arrest took place seven days after an April 25, 2026, incident at the Washington Hilton in which a suspect identified in court filings as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old California teacher, ran through a magnetometer while armed with a semi-automatic handgun, a pump-action shotgun, and three knives.
According to a government filing, a Secret Service officer observed Allen fire the shotgun in the direction of stairs leading to the ballroom. A Secret Service officer identified as G. was shot once in the chest while wearing a ballistic vest.
Court documents do not explicitly allege that Allen shot the officer. Officials have stated that the shooting was not the result of friendly fire. Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche told CBS News that the alleged assailant had shot the Secret Service agent.
At a news conference the following Monday, Blanche said investigators were still determining who shot the officer, that five shots in total were fired, and that ballistics testing was ongoing. The criminal complaint stated that Secret Service personnel heard a loud gunshot after Allen approached and ran through the magnetometer holding a long gun.
On Thursday, Jeanine Pirro, US Attorney for the District of Columbia, posted security footage on X showing the suspect running through the checkpoint. Secret Service Director Sean Curran told Fox News that all the evidence shows the suspect shot the officer at point-blank range with a shotgun.
Allen faces charges including attempting to assassinate the president, transporting weapons across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
No publicly released evidence has linked the Doral disorderly-conduct arrest to the Washington Hilton shooting beyond the one-week time difference. President Trump called on the White House Correspondents Association to reschedule the dinner with tighter security.
Separate shootings occurred in New York, Florida, North Carolina, and Illinois in the same period, including the killing of 16-year-old Marquise Byfield in Brooklyn, 17-year-old Trashawn Foster in Homestead, Florida, and Chicago police Officer John Bartholomew.
