Man Charged with Murder After Woman Stabbed in West London Home

Daniel Sean James, 46, of Mercer Place in Pinner, was charged with the murder of Kirandeep Kaur and appeared at the Old Bailey by videolink from Wormwood Scrubs on Thursday. Judge Nigel Lickley KC set a plea hearing for 1 October and remanded James into custody. He also faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a blade.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday 12 July on Uxbridge Road in Hayes, west London. James allegedly jumped from a window after the stabbing, breaking both ankles, and was detained by police nearby. Kaur, 24, was killed while sleeping with her husband and infant.

Kaur had moved to the UK from India in September 2024 to study at Buckinghamshire New University. She later worked at a grocery store in London and had married in the UK. She leaves behind an infant child, her husband, three siblings and her parents, who live in Tarn Taran, Punjab, about 13 miles south of Amritsar.

Her sister Gursharan Kaur, 21, spoke through a translator from Punjab. "She is everything for me, she video calls me and my mum. " Gursharan added that the family is poor and that her sister had supported them financially.

"Our family is very poor. " Vigils for Kaur were held on Friday and Saturday by the Sikh community in the area where she died. Gursharan said the family wants her body returned to India for a funeral in their village.

"I want her to come home so I can see her one last time," she stated.
