Vickrum Digwa, 23, was convicted of murder on Thursday at Southampton Crown Court in the death of Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old finance student at the University of Southampton. The fatal confrontation occurred on December 3, 2025. Prosecutors told jurors that Digwa stabbed Nowak multiple times with a 21-centimeter blade described in court as a Sikh kirpan-style weapon.

Officers arriving at the scene initially treated Nowak as the suspect after Digwa claimed he had been racially abused and attacked. Police handcuffed Nowak before realizing the severity of his injuries. He collapsed and died at the scene despite attempts to administer first aid.

Jurors rejected Digwa's claim that he acted in self-defense and found him guilty of murder. Hampshire Constabulary publicly apologized after the verdict and referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for investigation. " Reform UK MP Robert Jenrick called for the release of body-worn camera footage if the Nowak family consents.

Speaking on GB News, Jenrick said: "The officers chose to prioritize the accusation of racial abuse over saving the life of this young man. " He also stated: "The Prime Minister says absolutely nothing. " Sikh community organizations issued a statement condemning the killing.

Alan Mendoza, executive director and co-founder of the London-based Henry Jackson Society think tank, told Fox News Digital that the case reflected broader issues in British policing. "The killing of Henry Nowak shows how far the rot of political correctness has set into the British policing mentality," Mendoza said. " He added: "It clearly trumped actual murder in this case as a dying Mr.

Mendoza also said Digwa had "one of those [tiny ceremonial knives], plus his [8 inch] blade" and described him as "a weapons nut," citing trial evidence of a fascination with knives. The Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation into the officers’ actions remains ongoing.
