Man Sentenced to Five Years for Firebombing San Jose Post Office
A 45-year-old man received a five-year prison term Monday after pleading guilty to intentionally crashing his vehicle into a San Jose post office and setting it ablaze. The July 2025 incident destroyed the building's lobby and caused more than $2 million in damage.
New York PostA federal judge sentenced a 45-year-old man to five years in prison Monday after he admitted to driving his car through the front doors of a San Jose post office and setting the vehicle on fire. The man purchased firelogs and lighter fluid before the July 20, 2025, incident, according to court records.
He then spread lighter fluid inside the car, ignited it, and fled, leaving the lobby engulfed in flames. The building's lobby has remained closed since the fire. Officials said the man told investigators he acted to send a message to the U.S. government.

Davila ordered the man to serve an additional three years of supervised release and to pay more than $2 million in restitution to the U.S. Postal Service. The defendant was taken into custody immediately after the hearing. In February he pleaded guilty to one count of malicious destruction of government property by fire.
He had been arrested shortly after the incident and spent more than six months in custody before formal charges were filed. " They said they were relieved that no one was physically harmed during the fire.
