Manchester United Reveals Site for 100,000-Seat New Stadium

Manchester United has disclosed the proposed site for a new 100,000-seat stadium approximately 350 metres north-west of its current Old Trafford ground. The venue, referred to in club materials as New Trafford, would become Britain's largest football stadium and Europe's second-largest after Barcelona's Camp Nou.

The club confirmed it has secured the majority of the required land. Construction is expected to take five years once approvals are granted. Trafford Council is scheduled to consider the plan on July 20. If approved, an eight-week public consultation would run from July 28 to September 22.

The design features an umbrella-shaped roof intended to capture solar energy and rainwater, along with three tall masts visible from up to 25 miles on clear days.

The stadium anchors the Wharfside Masterplan, which includes thousands of new homes, improved pedestrian and cycling routes, and enhanced public transport links. The existing Old Trafford stadium, which holds nearly 74,000 spectators, would continue to host matches during construction, though its long-term future remains undecided.

The New Stretford End alone would seat 23,500 fans across two tiers.
