A 33-story high-rise under construction in Midtown Manhattan was evacuated after structural columns buckled on the 21st floor, sending bricks onto the street below. Inspectors also found multiple cracks and sagging floors on the same level. No injuries were reported and all workers were accounted for.
A nearby school with about 400 children was also evacuated. Nearby buildings were cleared as a precaution while officials assessed the risk of collapse.
Fire department and city buildings department officials are scheduled to hold a press conference to provide an update.
