Daniel Vern Joly and his father Daniel Joly were indicted on felony weapon charges after selling guns to undercover NYPD detectives. Authorities also charged two other men in the operation that moved firearms and ammunition worth more than $46,000.
New York PostManhattan prosecutors announced the indictment on June 22, 2026, of 34-year-old Daniel Vern Joly and his 53-year-old father Daniel Joly on felony weapon-sale and possession charges. The pair were arrested June 17 after allegedly selling 45 guns to undercover NYPD detectives in Chinatown and Brooklyn.
Police recovered 30 additional illegal weapons during the arrests, including a lilac-colored revolver, a fully automatic Uzi, and three switches that convert semi-automatic handguns into machine pistols.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said multiple recovered guns were equipped with devices designed to inflict increased harm. Daniel Vern Joly arranged the sales from his home in Georgia while his father gathered the guns and carried out the transactions, prosecutors said.
The son negotiated with undercover officers over adding attachments including forced-reset triggers that force the gun’s trigger forward after firing for faster semi-automatic fire.
Prosecutors also indicted Johnny Philogene, 37, and Deashawn Ross, 25, for their roles in the operation. The crew sold more than $46,000 worth of guns and ammunition to the detectives. The Jolys were arraigned on June 17.
Philogene and Ross were arrested in Georgia and are awaiting extradition to New York. Bragg announced the charges behind a table displaying the seized guns. NYPD Chief Detective Joseph Kenny said the department has seized more than 2,300 firearms in 2026.
Murders in New York City are down more than 20 percent this year, with a 58 percent drop in Manhattan, the lowest of any year in reported history, Kenny stated. Philogene is due back in court July 23. The Jolys are scheduled to appear August 4.
