Marco Rubio to Host Summit on Far-Left Terrorism With Over 60 Nations Amid Criticism Over Activist Designations

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet senior ministers from over 60 countries in Washington on Thursday to discuss the resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism, @zerohedge reported. A note shared with foreign governments described the threat as a blind spot in international counterterrorism efforts that has been underestimated and under-resourced.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated on July 13 that the United States is taking the resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism seriously.

He added that under President Trump’s leadership the administration is addressing gaps in counterterrorism strategy ignored by previous administrations. The conference will target international organizations including the decentralized antifa movement, which the administration has designated a domestic terrorist organization.

The gathering will include nations from Europe, Latin America, Asia, India and Israel to discuss intelligence sharing and law enforcement cooperation.

It will lay the foundation for coordinated action against groups seeking to advance an extreme political vision through intimidation and terror campaigns. The initiative follows a new U.S. counterterrorism strategy released in May 2026 that prioritizes violent secular political groups alongside traditional threats.

Some allies and the American Civil Liberties Union have accused the administration of using counterterrorism authorities against peaceful activists and donors. The State Department has clarified that designations target groups engaged in violent activities such as kidnapping and attacks on law enforcement or civilians.
