Marlins Place All-Star Pitcher Max Meyer on 15-Day Injured List
Miami Marlins right-hander Max Meyer was placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain before Monday's game in Houston. All-Star shortstop Otto Lopez sat out his second straight game with finger inflammation. Manager Clayton McCullough said Meyer will see a specialist this week.

Miami Marlins right-hander Max Meyer was placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain before Monday's game against the Houston Astros, ESPN reported. The 27-year-old first-time All-Star is 9-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 20 starts this season. Manager Clayton McCullough said Meyer first felt a sensation in his neck during a start in Seattle on July 7.
Meyer reported no issues entering his start Saturday in Milwaukee, but the sensation returned in the third inning. The Marlins said Meyer will be examined by Dr. Robert Watkins IV in Los Angeles this week.
"Certainly, a level concern that he's gonna go on the IL and have to be down for at least a couple of week, but I think right now (they) just want to get a fuller picture of what's going on and what's leading to this," McCullough said. The Marlins recalled right-hander Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A to fill Meyer's spot on the 26-man roster.
All-Star shortstop Otto Lopez was also out of the starting lineup for the second straight game.
He missed Sunday's contest with finger inflammation but was feeling better Monday. McCullough said Lopez was able to hit in the cage and perform baseball activity. "The swelling has gone down some," McCullough said.
335 with nine home runs and 41 RBIs in 97 games this season. McCullough said he does not expect Lopez to miss much additional time.
