Miami Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez is expected to miss about two months after sustaining a high-grade strain of his right gracilis muscle while stretching in the dugout during a game in Toronto. Pérez exited Wednesday's start after throwing four shutout innings when his right hamstring spasmed during lateral lunges on the bench.

He required assistance from a teammate to descend the steps into the clubhouse.

Imaging conducted Thursday confirmed the injury. 60 ERA in 12 starts this season. In his most recent outing against the Blue Jays he struck out a season-high nine batters.

Over his past 10⅓ innings he recorded 14 strikeouts without a walk while allowing one run and five hits. He has 72 strikeouts in 62⅔ innings this year. Pérez was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Thursday.

The Marlins recalled right-hander Josh Ekness from Triple-A Jacksonville to fill a roster spot. Manager Clayton McCullough addressed the timing of the setback before Friday's series opener against the New York Mets. "McCullough noted Pérez had been pitching well in recent starts.

We'll just have to pick up and keep going," McCullough said. He added that no plan is in place yet for how the club will fill Pérez's rotation spot beginning next week. The 6-foot-8 right-hander throws a 98-99 mph fastball.

He made his major league debut at age 20 in May 2023, sat out the 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, and returned to Miami's rotation in June 2025. 93 ERA in 51 career starts. McCullough said the injury will cost the 21-year-old valuable major-league experience.

"We know it's a young pitcher that still had a lot of experiences to gain from just getting the chance to take the ball at the major league level every fifth or sixth day," he said. " In a separate roster move, infielder Leo Jiménez was reinstated from the seven-day concussion injured list. Jiménez was injured when he took a knee to the head from Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr.

While sliding into third base on May 19. Infielder Graham Pauley was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville to clear space on the active roster.
