A 73-year-old Concord man received a state prison sentence of 13 1/2 to 15 years after a Barnstable Superior Court jury convicted him of raping a 20-year-old woman inside a Sandwich restaurant in 2023. The jury last week found Elie Jammal guilty of rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery, according to legal filings and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office.

Judge Michael A. Cahillane imposed the sentence based on court records.

Incident details The assault occurred on July 9, 2023.

Prosecutors stated that Jammal confronted the woman in a restroom hallway, told her she was beautiful, pushed her against a wall, and sexually assaulted her before demanding she enter his phone number into her cell phone. The woman escaped into the women’s restroom, but Jammal followed and assaulted her again, prosecutors said.

She attempted to call for help on her smart watch. ” Jammal had been dining at the restaurant with his wife. After the assaults, he and his wife left without paying before police arrived, according to prosecutors.

Statements from officials Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert J.

Galibois said in a statement: “A 20-year-old woman was having dinner with her family. She left the table to use the facilities and she was sexually attacked by a 70-year-old man in the hallway. ” The sentencing judge indicated the crime “was not fueled by alcohol consumption by the defendant, but by a shocking sense of entitlement,” prosecutors said.

A lawyer for Jammal did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
