John Bernard Arnold III, a World War II Navy veteran from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, died on May 6 at age 98. The town announced that he had no remaining relatives to attend his funeral services. Terrence O'Keeffe, the veterans service officer for Hanson and Hanover, posted on Facebook on May 15 asking residents to serve as attendees, pallbearers, and procession participants.
O'Keeffe wrote that he was enlisting help to send the veteran off the way he should.

Volunteer slots for pallbearers filled quickly, prompting organizers to close the sign-up and focus on crowd safety measures. m. on May 18. Overflow parking has been arranged at Botieri Field and the former Maquan School.
Graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island, and attended Rhode Island State University for two years. Both of his sisters predeceased him. m. on May 18 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson. Burial will follow at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in Taunton.
