The license subjects Mastercard to New York’s regulatory requirements for virtual currency businesses, which include capital, custody, and consumer-protection standards.
BitLicense regime, introduced in 2015, remains among the most detailed licensing systems for crypto firms operating in the United States. Firms holding the license must maintain detailed records, conduct regular audits, and meet anti-money-laundering obligations.
Mastercard stated that the approval will support its existing digital-asset initiatives and future product development. " No other firms or individuals were named in connection with the approval.
