McConnell's Office Reports Steady Improvement During Senate Recess; No Updates Since July 2

Sen. Mitch McConnell remains in the hospital more than three weeks after his June 14 admission, with his office providing no updates on his condition since a July 2 statement. " The Senate is currently out of session.

His office has released no details about the reason for the hospitalization or his expected return. " A follow-up statement one week later noted he would not be voting that week. As of July 6, McConnell's spokeswoman had not responded to requests for comment.

McConnell, 84, is serving the final months of his Senate term, which ends in January 2027. He previously served as the longest-serving Senate Republican leader before stepping down from that role. The senator has experienced several health incidents in recent years.

He was hospitalized with a concussion in March 2023 after falling in a Washington hotel. He twice froze during news conferences that summer. He fell and sprained his wrist at a GOP event in 2024 and underwent shoulder surgery after a 2019 fall at his Kentucky home.

McConnell had polio as a child and has acknowledged difficulty walking and climbing stairs as an adult.
