McIlroy shoots 64 at Scottish Open after outburst on 16th hole

Rory McIlroy shot a 6-under-par 64 on Sunday at the Renaissance Club during the Genesis Scottish Open. The round came after he played 28 holes in fog-delayed conditions, completing the first nine holes of the final round in 30 strokes. On the par-4 16th hole, McIlroy reacted strongly after an approach shot with a 6-iron.

The outburst was captured on the CBS broadcast and circulated on social media.

Round details McIlroy said after the round that the shot was poor.

He declined a suggestion that he would take the reaction back, stating the result on the scorecard stood. Tom Kim later hit an approach from 203 yards to six feet on the same hole, securing a two-shot victory.

Upcoming schedule McIlroy said he needs additional preparation before the British Open, which begins Thursday at Royal Birkdale. He has not won the event since 2014.
