Hundreds of medical professionals from North America gathered at a New Jersey hotel on June 14, 2026, to complete licensing requirements and receive job offers for positions in Israel. The annual MedEx event, organized by Nefesh B'Nefesh in partnership with Israel's Ministries of Aliyah and Integration, Health, and the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, along with the Jewish Agency for Israel, processed applications for physicians, dentists, nurses, and other specialists.
Participants received conditional medical licenses, hospital job placements, and Hebrew proficiency test results during the one-day program. Organizers stated that the streamlined process reduces the typical licensing timeline from nearly a year to four or five days after arrival.
A new requirement this year mandated Hebrew testing on site before departure.
Program structure and changes Nefesh B'Nefesh co-founder Rabbi Yehoshua Fass said the QR-coded badges allowed hospital representatives to scan participants' full credentials instantly. The organization added Hebrew examiners to the New Jersey venue rather than requiring tests after arrival in Israel. Fass stated that hospitals competed during the day to offer positions to arriving professionals.
Background on physician supply Israel's universities graduate fewer than 1,000 doctors annually while the Aliyah and Integration Ministry estimates a need for approximately 2,000 new physicians each year. The ministry launched the International Medical Aliyah Program in 2024 with a target of 2,000 doctors by 2029.
