Met Gala 2026 Set for Today with 'Costume Art' Theme and Beyoncé as Co-Host

The Met Gala 2026 is scheduled for today, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme is 'Costume Art', with a dress code of 'Fashion is Art'. Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour are co-hosts.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos serve as honorary chairs and provide funding for the event and exhibition. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz are co-chairs of the host committee, with Saint Laurent underwriting the 'Costume Art' exhibition. The accompanying exhibition explores depictions of the dressed body across the Met’s vast collection, pairing garments with artworks.

It will display 400 outfits and objects spanning 5,000 years and run from May 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. The Costume Institute's new space, named Condé M. Nast Galleries, measures nearly 12,000 square feet and is located in the museum’s Great Hall.

Around 450 guests are expected, with arrivals beginning at about 18:00 EST. Members of the host committee include Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, and Lisa from Blackpink. Page Six reported that attendees will include Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Julia Garner, Alexa Chung, and Gabrielle Union.

Individual tickets cost $100,000, according to The New York Times, while tables start at $350,000. Individual tickets are also reported to cost about $75,000, with tables costing upwards of $350,000. The 2025 Met Gala raised $31 million, compared to $26 million in 2024.

Beyoncé last attended the Met Gala in 2016. Jeff Bezos stepped down as Amazon's chief executive four years ago. Anna Wintour has chaired the Met Gala since 1995. The 2025 Met Gala theme was 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style'.

The 2024 theme was 'Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking'. The 2023 theme involved tributes to Karl Lagerfeld. The 2022 theme was inspired by the gilded age. The 2021 theme involved embracing Americana.
