Meta announced an improved Meta Account system on Thursday, designed to make it easier for users to sign in and manage their accounts and devices across the company's ecosystem, TechCrunch reported. The system will roll out over the next year, allowing users to set up a single password that applies to all accounts within the Meta ecosystem.

Logins for Meta Accounts can be protected with passkeys using fingerprints, face recognition or device passwords.

The Meta Account will include security recommendations to help users stay up-to-date with multi-factor authentication. Settings that apply across Meta apps and devices are managed in one place through the Meta Account. This includes central management of passwords, two-factor authentication and the email address associated with the account.

The Accounts Center will transition to the Meta Account. The Meta Account will help parents supervise teens’ behavior across apps from the Family Center dashboard. Parents can manage settings for Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Meta Horizon in the same place using this dashboard.

Settings specific to an app remain managed independently within the app itself. For example, who can see Facebook posts is a Facebook setting. Whether someone can tag you in a photo on Instagram is an Instagram setting.

The Meta Account setup does not force users to link all of their accounts. Users can add or remove accounts from the overall Meta Account at any time.

“Now, more settings can be centrally managed this way, including your password, two-factor authentication, and the email address associated with your account.

The update aims to simplify the experience amid the expansive Meta ecosystem, which includes apps like Facebook, WhatsApp and more.
