Meta announced a new line of AI glasses on Tuesday that the company designed internally. The glasses start at $299, below the $379 entry price of the company's Ray-Ban models. The lower price is intended to reach more buyers as the company seeks returns on its AI spending. Three frame styles are offered: Adventurer, Fury, and Meta Glasses by Kylie.
The glasses can play music, translate languages, and answer questions about surroundings using built-in cameras. They launch with the Muse Spark AI model, which the company says improves photo detail extraction and personal preference memory. During a press event, the glasses estimated calories in food, translated Arabic text, and identified nearby museums.
Meta continues to work with EssilorLuxottica on lenses and still sells the Ray-Ban and Oakley versions. The new frames provide additional style choices for consumers who prefer non-premium branding. Market data from the International Data Corporation shows smart glasses shipments rose 167 percent in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
Meta held 69.2 percent of that market.
Meta glasses include an LED indicator when recording. Company statements describe ongoing efforts to prevent misuse while maintaining the indicator's visibility. Google and Samsung plan AI glasses for later this year, and OpenAI is developing hardware. ChatGPT is used by 44 percent of U.S. adults, Gemini by 24 percent, and Meta AI by 14 percent, according to Pew Research.
