Meta introduced an AI image generator that automatically includes photos from public Instagram accounts. Users can switch their accounts to private or adjust settings to stop new images from being created with their content.
New York PostMeta introduced an AI image generator called Muse Image that automatically includes photos from public Instagram accounts. The tool allows any user to generate images based on another account's photos, Reels, or videos by tagging the username in a prompt.
The rollout began in the United States. Instagram accounts set to private are not included, but public accounts are enrolled unless the owner changes the setting.
Users who want to keep their accounts public can disable the feature in the app. The app must be updated for the option to appear. " Turning the setting off or switching to a private account stops only future image generation. Any AI images already created with the content remain available.
Meta described Muse Image as a way to design event invitations, mock up creative concepts, or generate personalized graphics. The company also noted uses such as placing a pet in a painting or combining a selfie with a vacation photo. Meta did not respond to questions about why public accounts are automatically enrolled.
The tool is positioned to compete with other AI image generators already available from other companies.
