New York Mets interim manager Andy Green said the club remains fully compliant with Major League Baseball rules on artificial intelligence use. He spoke before the Mets faced the Philadelphia Phillies on July 18, 2026. "Whatever the rules are, we remain fully compliant and Major League Baseball makes those determinations," Green said.
A report had singled out the Mets for employing artificial intelligence in in-game strategy decisions. Former Mets reliever Adam Ottavino said on his YouTube livestream that the team used an expensive AI program to help select pitches and perform other tasks. Ottavino, who pitched for the Mets from 2022 to 2024, now works as a broadcaster on the New York Yankees' YES Network.
"The Mets were actually the team, the main team, that got cracked down on," Ottavino said. " Green declined to address Ottavino's comments directly. "I don't think it does us any good to talk about what everybody says publicly," he said.
Major League Baseball made custom tabs on dugout iPads inaccessible to teams beginning July 15, 2026, the start of the second half of the season. The tablets previously provided access to video, league data, and custom programs. Green said he held no strong view on the restriction and deferred to the league.
