Mets Prospect Jonah Tong Pitches One-Hitter in Triple-A Outing Against Lehigh Valley
New York Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong delivered a strong performance with a one-hitter over six innings against Lehigh Valley. The Mets lost 4-3 in 10 innings to the Angels in a separate game. Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Tong's outing and other players' contributions amid ongoing team developments.
espn.comCom reported. Tong took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in the Triple-A Syracuse outing on May 2, 2026. He allowed one run, zero earned runs, and one hit in the six innings pitched.
60 ERA in seven starts this season. His 44 strikeouts are tied for the most in the minor leagues. 72 ERA.
Manager Carlos Mendoza addressed Tong's performance before the Mets' 4-3 loss in 10 innings to the Angels. 'We need to continue to see that. He’s a guy that is important for this organization, for us, and we will continue to watch him closely.
But it was good to see him today putting together another good outing out there,' Mendoza said. Tong also threw a pitch during a spring training game on March 21. In the game against the Angels, Austin Slater and Andy Ibáñez started as corner outfielders against left-hander Reid Detmers.
Both players joined the Mets within the last week. 'They have done it throughout their career at this level, so there is a reason why they are here and we will continue to give them chances,' Mendoza said. Ibáñez went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly before being pinch-hit for by Carson Benge.
Slater went 2-for-3 and scored a run. The Mets are now 305-305 all time in interleague play. Christian Scott pitched five innings against the Angels on Friday, allowing three earned runs with eight strikeouts.
Scott rebounded from a shaky performance a week earlier in his return to the major leagues following Tommy John surgery. He walked five batters over 1 1/3 innings in his previous outing but did not walk a batter in Friday’s start. Scott surrendered a two-run homer to Jorge Soler in the first inning.
The Angels managed just an unearned run against Scott over the next four innings. 'Not only because of his stuff, but he’s just got a really good head. He doesn’t get too high or low. And he didn’t show any sign.
I am not surprised. It just goes to show you he’s a mature kid,' Mendoza said. Jorge Polanco has begun taking batting practice on the field in his rehab from a right wrist contusion that has sidelined him for the last two weeks.
Polanco has also dealt with left Achilles bursitis.
