Mexican security authorities said Tuesday that a suspect identified only as Isai "N" was arrested in the northern border state of Sonora. The individual is wanted by U.S. authorities. Top security official Omar Garcia Harfuch stated on X that 687 kilos of cocaine, 151 guns and 18 grenades were seized during a separate operation.

He described the actions as part of ongoing coordination among Mexican agencies to target criminal structures.

Background on prior cases Court records released earlier this month showed that a man extradited to the United States in 2017 had requested transfer back to Mexico, citing prison conditions. The individual is serving a life sentence at a maximum-security facility in Florence, Colorado, on charges including drug trafficking and money laundering.

The same person has previously written letters complaining of isolation and lack of family visits. In 2023 an appeal was made to then-President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador alleging psychological effects from incarceration.

Recent enforcement actions Last month Mexican soldiers captured three associates of a cartel figure during an operation that received U.S. intelligence support. A brother of that figure, identified as Aureliano Guzman Loera, continues to carry a $5 million U.S. bounty.
