Mexican authorities detained the nephew of Joaquin El Chapo Guzman during an operation in Nogales, Sonora, on Tuesday. Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar Garcia Harfuch said the suspect, identified only as Isai N, faces an extradition order to the United States.

In a separate action in Tapachula, Chiapas, officers seized 687 kilograms of cocaine, 151 firearms, 363 magazines and 18 grenades. He is serving a life sentence at a maximum-security prison in Florence, Colorado, on drug trafficking and money laundering convictions.

Court records show that earlier this month Guzman wrote to the Eastern District of New York requesting transfer back to Mexico, citing prison conditions. The suspect's arrest follows recent Mexican operations that detained three associates of Guzman's brother, who remains wanted by U.S. authorities.
