Microsoft Flight Simulator Adds Aerial Firefighting Mission

The NSW Rural Fire Service partnered with Microsoft to add an aerial firefighting mission to Flight Simulator. The mission incorporates video recorded with a million-dollar camera at actual sites.

Game director Jörg Neumann discussed the collaboration in an interview with 9news.com.au. Neumann described how the camera footage was integrated into the simulator environment. The partnership marks the first time the service has contributed operational scenarios to the game.

The camera system records high-resolution imagery used to recreate terrain and structures. Flight Simulator players can now complete virtual firefighting flights based on the recorded locations. Further updates to the mission content have not been announced.
