Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey finalized a multiyear deal Friday to become the new president of basketball operations for the Philadelphia 76ers. His agent, Bret Just of WME Basketball, told ESPN that the agreement is complete. Gansey, 43, joined the Cavaliers in the 2011-12 season and rose through the front office ranks.

Bob Myers, president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, led the search for the 76ers' new head of basketball operations. Ownership made the decision to part ways with Daryl Morey before the search began. Myers will work closely with Gansey and assist in his vision for the organization.

Gansey and Nick U'Ren of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury were the finalists for the position. Each candidate held final-stage meetings with 76ers ownership this week on the East Coast. The decision to hire Gansey was made Friday.

U'Ren has served as the top basketball executive of the Phoenix Mercury over the past three years. He held multiple front office titles under Myers during their time together with the Golden State Warriors. Gansey, along with president of basketball operations Koby Altman, helped build the Cavaliers into deep NBA postseason participants.

The team reached the Eastern Conference finals before losing in four games to the New York Knicks. The Cavaliers finished with a 52-win season that included a February deadline trade sending guard Darius Garland to the LA Clippers for James Harden. Gansey is a northeast Ohio native who played collegiately at West Virginia, where he earned first-team Big East honors.

He previously served as general manager for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
