Military helicopters and fighter jets performed repeated flyovers over the National Mall on July 4, 2026, during events marking the U.S. 250th anniversary. Ospreys flew in formation while F-18s executed stunts above thousands of spectators, washingtontimes.com reported.
Alisa Champa, a Colorado resident, said she had been filming flyovers every 10 or 15 minutes. She noted that her family had planned the trip to Washington for a year and that she enjoyed the performances scheduled to continue into the night. The U.S.
Navy’s Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force’s Thunderbirds performed during afternoon highlights. Evening segments were set to include flyovers by Air Force One and portions of the military’s stealth fleet.
An F-22 Raptor, a B-1 bomber and an Army Golden Knights parachute jump were scheduled at dusk. The flyover schedule extended until the fireworks display began at 10:30 p.m. Alan Long, a Baltimore resident who immigrated from China 20 years earlier, attended the Great American State Fair and said the flyovers were the best part of the event.
He added that the air show provided a distraction from the heat on the fairgrounds.
