Military kills Hezbollah fighter after officer slain in southern Lebanon

The military announced Sunday that it killed the Hezbollah fighter responsible for shooting and killing an officer and wounding another soldier during an operation near Deir Siryan in southern Lebanon. m. Condolences issued Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement Sunday offering condolences to the officer's family. "David, of blessed memory, from the city of Ashkelon, was one of our finest sons. He courageously led his soldiers at the front lines of battle to protect our citizens and communities from the Hezbollah terrorist organization," he said.
Ashkelon Mayor Tomer Galam also issued a statement. "The city of Ashkelon bows its head and grieves over his loss," Galam said. " The officer was a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade's 12th Battalion. His father had passed away several years earlier.
