Milli Vanilli and Morris Day Decline to Perform at Freedom 250 Mall Events

Milli Vanilli and Morris Day said they will not perform at concerts organized by Freedom 250 on Washington's National Mall. Milli Vanilli singer Jodie Rocco told The Associated Press that neither she, her sister Linda Rocco, nor other group members had been contacted about appearing. Day and Young MC posted statements on social media disputing their inclusion in the lineup.
I were shocked to see our name, 'Milli Vanilli', as one of the performers," Jodie Rocco wrote in an email. Young MC questioned whether the events would remain nonpartisan, stating the artists had not been informed of any political involvement. Day posted on Instagram that Morris Day & The Time would not perform at the Great American State Fair.
Vanilla Ice confirmed he will appear, with a representative stating he is proud to help celebrate the anniversary.
250 announced the first wave of performers on Wednesday for shows running June 25 to July 10. Milli Vanilli and Young MC were listed for a June 26 "I Love the 90s" concert, while Day was scheduled for June 27. Other announced performers include the Commodores, Flo Rida, and Martina McBride. A Freedom 250 spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment on Thursday.
