Milwaukee Brewers Place Brandon Woodruff on Injured List, Recall Drew Rom

The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation on July 5 and recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Rom from Triple-A Nashville. Woodruff left his July 4 start against the Arizona Diamondbacks after four innings and 61 pitches. None of his pitches that day exceeded 87.3 mph.

He allowed a three-run home run to Adrian Del Castillo in the first inning but struck him out on a 75.1 mph changeup in the fourth. The Brewers lost the game 4-3. Woodruff is 2-2 with a 2.98 ERA in nine starts this season.

Through 45⅓ innings he posted a 27 percent strikeout rate and a 5.7 percent walk rate. "First inning was fine, then it was kind of a slow progression of discomfort," he said after the outing. Woodruff underwent shoulder surgery after the 2023 season and missed the entire 2024 season.

He returned midway through 2025 and went 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts. He accepted a one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer to pitch for the Brewers in 2026. On April 30 he lasted only 1⅓ innings against the Diamondbacks with an average fastball velocity of 85.4 mph.

He underwent a minor surgical procedure in early May to drain fluid and remove a cyst outside his right shoulder joint. "It gets a little frustrating dealing with this. It kind of comes in waves," Woodruff said.

Rom posted a 3.38 ERA in four relief outings with Milwaukee earlier this season. He went 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA and one save in 25 relief appearances at Nashville.
