Mistral AI announced plans to expand its data center network and form partnerships with European industrial clients at the AI Now Summit held in Paris on May 28. Co-founder Arthur Mensch stated the company seeks to become an independent full-stack player present across the entire AI value chain, from chips in data centers to software applications used by corporate clients.

The company, founded in April 2023, is the main European manufacturer of language processing models. It plans a new data center project in Les Ulis south of Paris.

AI highlighted partnerships with Airbus, BMW, and French public electric utility company EDF. These agreements form part of downstream expansion efforts. Mensch said AI is becoming as important as electricity and that Europe needs computing infrastructure that is available, affordable, adaptable, and secure.

He cited the dominance of American cloud companies Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. A new data center project and the listed industrial partnerships constitute the concrete steps outlined at the May 28 conference.
