MLS Commissioner Garber's X Account Hacked During Whitecaps Relocation Talks
MLS Commissioner Don Garber's X account was compromised, posting a deleted reply calling British Columbia Premier David Eby a 'liar, liar pants on fire.' The incident occurred amid efforts to prevent the Vancouver Whitecaps' relocation, including a new offer to move the team to Las Vegas. Garber confirmed the hack and thanked Eby for a recent meeting.
reviewjournal.comCom reported. One hour after the reply appeared, Garber posted on social media that his account had been hacked. He wrote: 'My account was compromised earlier this evening.
The issue has been resolved. MLS executive vice president of communications Dan Courtemanche posted on social media that Garber had been hacked and did not post the reply. A league spokesperson told ESPN that a random person posted the response.
The incident unfolded as Eby posted a 45-second video message on his X account, stating that his government was working to retain the Whitecaps amid ongoing relocation considerations. On Thursday, a group of investors led by Grant Gustavson, the son of billionaire Tamara Gustavson, made a formal offer to buy the Vancouver Whitecaps and move the team to Las Vegas, ESPN reported.
Las Vegas is among the locations that an MLS subcommittee discussed for the possible relocation of the Whitecaps.
The Whitecaps have been up for sale since December 2024, and the club has had conversations with more than 100 interested parties. No viable offer has emerged to keep the Vancouver Whitecaps in Vancouver, according to the club, though MLS has expressed a preference for retention while a Las Vegas relocation bid advances.
A subcommittee of MLS league owners has met to discuss the Vancouver Whitecaps and the possibility of relocation. Vancouver Whitecaps FC fans held signs in support of the club before the start of their MLS match against the Colorado Rapids at BC Place on April 25, 2026, in Vancouver, Canada.
Separately, Garber spoke during the official opening of New York Red Bulls new training facilities on April 22, 2026, in Morristown, New Jersey.
