Monaco Police Identify Suspect in June 29 Bombing That Injured Three

Monaco police have identified the person suspected of planting a bomb that injured three people in the foyer of an apartment building on June 29. The blast occurred shortly before 9 p.m. near Place des Moulins. Surveillance footage showed a man who had walked the area several times before fleeing toward the nearby French municipality of Beausoleil.

Prosecutors opened an attempted murder case and stated the incident is not being treated as terrorism. Officials said the female victim was in life-threatening condition after the device detonated as the family entered the building. Monaco's government said two adults and one child were taken to a hospital in nearby Nice.

A neighbor reported seeing a young boy on the ground and said his wife, a doctor, applied tourniquets and performed resuscitation before emergency crews arrived.

Background on the Targeted Family The injured businessman founded the Alef Group, a conglomerate active in real estate, manufacturing, and agriculture. He renounced Ukrainian citizenship in 2017 and obtained a Cypriot passport. Kyiv sanctioned him in June 2024 over alleged vodka sales in Russian-occupied Crimea.

A public relations firm representing him rejected characterizations of him as an oligarch and said he has never held political office or controlled strategic sectors of the Ukrainian economy. His adult son pleaded guilty in Estonia in April to fraud charges linked to a 100 million euro phone scam and received a suspended sentence plus an 8.5 million euro fine.

Monaco's ruler called the bombing an odious act and said all security services had been mobilized. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said its embassy in Paris is coordinating with Monaco authorities. A photograph released by French media shows a man in a black jacket, light pants, and white shoes running while covering his face with a bucket hat.

Police said the manhunt continues in coordination with French authorities.
