Census data analyzed by Realtor.com shows a record share of younger adults living with parents. The trend coincides with higher home prices and rents.

Marriage trends and household formation The share of adults aged 25 to 34 living independently fell from 74 percent in 2005 to 62 percent in 2024, according to the Urban Institute. Over the same period, the share living with parents rose from 12 percent to 20 percent.
The share of adults aged 30 to 34 who had never married increased from 32 percent in 2008 to 47 percent in 2024. A clinical associate professor at Indiana University said married couples are more likely to form independent households than never-married peers.
Men in their early 30s were nearly twice as likely as women the same age to live with parents.
