Mozambique President Visits Rwandan Forces in Cabo Delgado

Mozambique's president visited the headquarters of Rwandan security forces in Mocímboa da Praia on July 2 and commended their contribution to security operations in Cabo Delgado province. The president credited the Rwandan deployment with protecting civilians and stabilizing the coastal province.

A statement from the Rwanda Defence Force said the president expressed gratitude to the government of Rwanda for its support in combating armed groups.

Rwanda first sent forces to Cabo Delgado in July 2021 after an invitation from Mozambique's government. The deployment now exceeds 6,000 personnel under a bilateral security arrangement. Joint operations have restored security in several districts, enabling displaced residents to return and allowing schools and businesses to reopen.

The province holds major liquefied natural gas projects that have resumed work as conditions improved. The president also met Mozambican troops in the same district and later held discussions with Rwandan commanders at the local airport. The country's defense minister and senior military officers accompanied the president during the visit.
