Muchova Edges Gauff in Wimbledon Semifinal After Saving Match Point

Karolina Muchova defeated Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) in a Wimbledon semifinal on July 9, ESPN reported. The match was played on Centre Court at Wimbledon, England, where temperatures reached 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Muchova reached her first Wimbledon final and will face Linda Noskova on July 11.

Noskova advanced by defeating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal. The deciding tiebreaker included several match points. Gauff held one at 9-8 but hit a forehand into the net. Muchova produced a lob winner to set up her first match point, which she lost after slipping on the grass.

She won the match on her second match point when Gauff netted another forehand. Muchova, the 10th seed ranked ninth in the WTA, improved her 2026 grass-court record to 11-1 after winning the Bad Homburg title earlier this year. Gauff, ranked seventh, had reached only the fourth round at Wimbledon in prior appearances.

"It was such a big fight," Muchova said. " Muchova reached the 2023 French Open final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek. She has now reached the semifinals or better at all four Grand Slams.
