Napoleon Solo captured the 151st running of the Preakness Stakes on May 17, 2026. The gray colt, trained by Chad Summers and ridden by Paco Lopez, finished one and a quarter lengths ahead of the field.
ForbesNapoleon Solo won the 151st Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park on May 17, 2026. The three-year-old gray colt, owned by Gold Square LLC and trained by Chad Summers, took the lead at the quarter pole and finished one and a quarter lengths in front. Jockey Paco Lopez rode the son of Liam's Map to victory.
The horse had won both of his starts as a two-year-old by a combined 12 lengths, including a six-and-a-half-length victory in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes.
Solo entered the Preakness after two fifth-place finishes in graded stakes races earlier this year. He finished fifth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes on February 28 at Gulfstream Park and fifth in the Wood Memorial on April 4 at Aqueduct. Despite those results, the colt was one of only three graded-stakes winners in the field and the only Grade 1 winner. He paid $17.80 for a $2 win wager.
Solo will not run in the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
His connections stated that his best races are likely at distances shorter than the mile and a quarter of this year's Belmont. Shorter races for three-year-olds later in the summer, such as the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth Park, are possible targets. The horse was purchased for $40,000 at the Keeneland yearling sale and has now earned just over $1.5 million.
