Nassau County Executive Addresses Donors at Hamptons Breakfast
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman spoke to more than 80 business leaders and philanthropists at a nonpartisan breakfast in Southampton. He pledged to oppose a proposed tax on luxury second homes and outlined other campaign positions.
nypost.comRepublican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman spoke for about 20 minutes at a business breakfast in Southampton on Saturday. The event, hosted by John Catsimatidis at 75 Main, drew more than 80 CEOs, philanthropists and other attendees. Blakeman repeated earlier pledges to end New York’s sanctuary-state status, lower utility bills and pardon ex-NYPD Sgt. Erik Duran.
Blakeman received the strongest response when he said he would oppose a planned tax on second homes assessed above certain thresholds. The measure would apply to non-resident owners of condos and co-ops valued over $1 million and one- to three-family homes assessed above $5 million. He added that owners prefer to pass assets to heirs rather than pay additional state taxes.
Among those present were Bruce Mosler of Cushman & Wakefield, Suffolk County Conservative Party Chairman Michael Torres, publicist Todd Shapiro, former New York Stock Exchange board member Linda Wachner, philanthropist Nina Rosenthal and former Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Richard Weinberg.
A source at the event said Blakeman could raise more than $5 million from roughly a dozen fundraisers discussed by attendees. Catsimatidis noted that Gov. Kathy Hochul is scheduled to appear at a similar breakfast in August.
