Nate Diaz posted on X on July 11, 2026 that he made everybody welterweights and attributed the upcoming Conor McGregor and Max Holloway rematch at welterweight to his influence. com reported the statement came the same night McGregor's return was confirmed.
Diaz had said earlier in 2026 that he chose not to re-sign with the UFC because he did not want a third fight with McGregor at that time.
He instead made his MMA return on Netflix, where he lost to Mike Perry. McGregor and Holloway first met at UFC 196 at 170 pounds on short notice. Both fighters have since competed primarily at welterweight.
Diaz's final fight at 155 pounds was a win over Michael Johnson that ended with him calling out McGregor. McGregor publicly encouraged Holloway to fight at welterweight ahead of UFC 329. McGregor also stated there was zero BMF about Holloway and Charles Oliveira making weight at lightweight for their BMF title bout earlier in 2026.
