National average gas price falls to $3.838 per gallon
The U.S. average price for regular gasoline declined to $3.838 per gallon on Thursday, the lowest level since March. Prices have now remained below $4 per gallon for two consecutive weeks.

The national average price for regular gasoline fell to $3.838 per gallon on Thursday, according to AAA. The figure marks the second straight week that prices have stayed under $4 per gallon and the seventh consecutive day below $3.92. Gas prices have dropped more than 45 cents per gallon over the past month.
The national average reached a five-year low of $2.79 on Jan. 12, 2026, before rising through late January and February due to severe winter weather.
Price surge and decline Prices increased sharply after a military operation began on Feb. 28 and reached a 2026 high of $4.564 per gallon on May 21. The average has declined steadily since that peak. Prices fell below the $4 threshold again on June 19 for the first time since the end of March.
With the exception of a one-day increase last week, the national average has declined for five consecutive weeks.
Regional price differences Fuel costs continue to vary by region.
Indiana recorded the lowest statewide average at $3.125 per gallon, followed by Texas at $3.344 and Oklahoma at $3.374. Hawaii posted the highest average at $5.485 per gallon, followed by California at $5.401 and Washington state at $5.098.
