National Weather Service Forecasts Upper 80s Temperatures for Mid-Atlantic and Southeast US from April 14 to 16
The National Weather Service reported that parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will experience temperatures in the upper 80s from Tuesday, April 14, to Thursday, April 16. This warmup follows warm conditions on April 10 and precedes severe thunderstorms in the central US. The forecast comes after the hottest March on record in the contiguous United States.

The National Weather Service announced that unseasonably warm weather will affect much of the eastern United States starting next week. Parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast are expected to see temperatures reach the upper 80s from Tuesday, April 14, through Thursday, April 16. In some areas, the heat index could reach 90 degrees.
On Friday, April 10, parts of the East Coast already recorded warm temperatures. In and around Washington, DC, temperatures reached the high 70s. Pittsburgh recorded mid-70s temperatures, according to the local weather service office.
The New York City metropolitan area experienced mild temperatures in the 60s on Saturday, April 11. City emergency management officials reported an elevated risk of wildfires due to 20-30 mph wind gusts and low humidity. AccuWeather stated that the risk of wildfires will increase next week because of dry brush, fallen leaves, gusty breezes, and dry air.
The weather service office in New York reported that pronounced warm-ups are expected on Monday, April 13, with above-normal temperatures through most of the week.
Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are forecast for the central United States during this period. The warming along the East Coast follows the hottest March in the contiguous United States since records began more than 130 years ago. USA TODAY reported that March temperatures were part of a record-breaking 12-month period, according to the National Centers for Environmental Information, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
A strong El Niño, characterized by warmer surface sea temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, is expected to form and may influence global temperatures in the short term. Forecasters recommended precautions during the hot temperatures, including staying hydrated, limiting time outdoors, resting in the shade, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles.
