The ROKS Gyeongbuk was transferred during a ceremony at an SK Oceanplant shipyard in Goseong, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said in a release.
The 129-meter-long warship carries a 5-inch naval gun, tactical ship-to-land and anti-ship missiles, and long-range anti-submarine torpedoes. It also has a multi-function radar for tracking aerial and surface targets.
Vessel role and program background The frigate is assigned to monitor and defend operational areas and is expected to serve as a core fleet asset, the Navy said. It was launched in June 2025 and is the second ship built under the Ulsan-class Batch-III program, which is intended to replace older naval frigates.
The vessel will complete about six months of training before assignment to a regional fleet.
